In late August our fishing grounds are full of Northern Coho which offer fishermen action all day long.  With catches getting up to 80 per day in a boat, and average weight hovering around 14 pounds this time of the year is great for families and fishermen to enjoy the North Coast.  If your interest is bucktailing or flycasting for big chrome Coho Salmon, there is no better time of the year to take advantage of them.

Third Annual Coho Derby -- Full

In light of record Coho Salmon catches from 2009 and with 2010 runs expected to be similar, we are pleased to announce that we will be holding our Annual Coho Derby once again this August.  As of June 2nd, the derby is NOW FULL.

 

 

August 24-28/2010 -- FULL

With over $15,000 worth of prizes to be won, and only 34 entrants, your chances of being on the podium are great.  The tournament is a great opportunity to take advantage of the plentiful Coho salmon that visit our area in August and September.  With average size being between 12 to 16 pounds, and regular 20 pounders coming in, it is a great time to be out on the water boating 30 to 75 a day.  

Trip Schedule

  • August 24, depart Vancouver and arrive at North King Lodge mid-morning.  Fish the rest of the day and get acquainted with the area.
  • August 25, Day One of the derby commences at sun up and ends at 8 p.m.
  • August 26, Day Two of the derby commences at sun up and ends at 8 p.m.
  • August 27, fish at your leisure.  Derby prizes presented after dinner.
  • August 28, fish the early hours of the morning and depart for Vancouver mid-morning.

What is up for grabs?

Being that there is over $15,000 worth of prizes to be won, we like to spread the wealth as much as we can and we always keep in mind that the winners should be rewarded appropriately.  There will be prizes for hidden daily weights. 

  1. 2 Trips for 2011 and 60% of the pot
  2. 25% of the pot and an Islander Reel/Mooching Rod Set Up
  3. 15% of the pot and Halibut Reel and Rod Set Up
